In these days when we have to cook more often because we have reduced mobility and limited time to eat in restaurants, we have to look for ideas to try new culinary recipes or simply try new versions of our favourite dishes such as pasta, to break the monotony and try new combinations and ingredients. So let’s get on with it. Today we propose a pasta dish, but lentil pasta, which is super easy and quick to make, as well as nutritious and very tasty, … you’re going to love it: red lentil pasta with fried peppers and Jamón.
The main basic ingredient is lentil pasta, if you haven’t cooked it before, don’t worry, because it needs the same as wheat pasta, boiling water, a dash of oil, a pinch of saltSalt is an essential ingredient in the curing of jamón, as ... More and the time indicated on the packaging, which is usually between 8 and 11 minutes depending on the shape and size of the pasta, this last detail is entirely to taste: spirals, macaroni, bows…whatever you can find. The rest of the ingredients are to taste or whatever you have in the fridge at the time, except the Jamón/ham, which, if it is from Enrique Tomás, will give it the final touch with the best flavour. But if you already have some at home, you don’t need to buy Jamón/ham, but if not, we recommend you to buy our hand-cut and vacuum-packed ham cubes, ready to add flavour to any dish.
In a pot bring water to a boil to cook the lentil paste. When it boils, add salt and then the red lentil paste you have. Stir until the water reaches boiling temperature again. Leave it on medium heat so that the pasta does not cook too fast and you can check that it is ready, or “al dente” as the Italians say.
In a frying pan, fry the onion and the peppers cut into julienne strips with a little oil, as you can see in the image. Add a little salt, but bear in mind that the Jamón/ham already provides it, so that you don’t add too much salt and it becomes salty.
When the onion and pepper are browned or poached, add the diced ham and fry everything for a minute, over a low heat, so that the flavours blend. Remove from the heat source and set aside.
Once the pasta has been strained and is ready to serve, add virgin olive oil to prevent it from sticking and to give it the wonderful taste of this liquid gold.
Serve the pasta on plates and top it with the sautéed peppers and ham, and eat now! We hope you like it!
